New to me

Don't you just love color? I do. Well anyway, I have discovered batik. Of course I've seen it for years, and paid no attention. Now batik has caught my eye and I'm in love. I haven't been able to find a lot of clothes I love. I am in need of color in my life and the tops I have aren't doing it for me. So I'm cranking up the old sewing machine. I've been inspired by a lot of things I've seen. A lot of posts from advanced style, many decorative items, and most of all by the fact that I don't want to look like anyone else. I think I finally have the nerve to start designing the clothes I want for me. The top piece of fabric is full of color. I don't need to have such colorful pieces but I'm very impressed by the combinations of color. So I've ordered 3 pieces of fabric. I'll start with simple tops, etc. I think I may also try to embellish things I have. What fun I'll have. I find that a lot of batiks are sold as options for quilting. So I should be able to get fabrics around home.

At the same time I'm seeing the colorful batiks, I'm seeing some new pieces of jewelry. I am including a piece I love. I don't remember where I saw it. But I love it. A lot. I am going to try to coordinate some of my jewelry with the fabrics I use for sewing. I'm in need of  space in the studio. So maybe selling some of my least favorite pieces of jewelry on ebay will be a good idea. Now to figure out how to photograph it.

As you can tell, the ideas about the fabric are exciting me. I am finally finding enough energy to move about some more. I have been way too tired to do much but the exercise at the therapy center is helping. So maybe I can straighten or organize part of the studio and get some of these things done. Wish me luck.

I have always dreamed of being able to sew. I have a 40's Singer sewing machine, however have not even attempted to sew in it.... it should be a fun project I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Judy, I hope that you get better and are able to accomplish all of your sewing projects. I haven't touch my sewing machine in at least a year!

I think I learned to sew from watching my mom as I grew up. I need luck because I bought 2 yards each of 44 inch wide fabric. I plan on short sleeve simple tops to start. And I think sewing is like riding a bicycle. You can pick it up and remember what you did before. I can't wait for the fabric to get here.
